Our first month.

Hi all,

We have survived our first month owning the business, things have been a bit slow which gives us a change to get our heads around everything. We showcased our products at our local markets in order to give people an opportunity to see what we do in person recently and we would like to thank everyone for the encouraging support and great feedback. We will endeavour to notify you in advance of any future events that we attend and invite you to come down and say hello.

We have a new range of jewellery and gemstones in the process of being made by us and will be adding to our range in the near future. Keep a watch on our web site and face book as we will be adding new products regularly. We are also experimenting with engraving photo’s onto discs and will also have photo’s on line soon.

Would like to remind everyone that fathers day is only 2 and a bit week away and we are doing 10% discount on our Dog Tags and Silver discs and Key tags.

Short and sweet this  month but will have more coming soon.

Thanks

Mark and Sue Storey

New Owners

Hi,

We would like to introduce ourselves as the proud new owners of Sweet Sweet Silver. We have lots of experience in Jewellery manufacture and are active members of our local Gem club. Amongst the members at the club, there is an amazing range of people there that are always willing to share there experience and creative ideas. We have a few other aspects of jewellery that we look forward to adding to the range in the near future.

The last couple of weeks have been an absolute blur with all of the new things that we have had to learn about websites and social media, but are really excited about the business and building it with our new products and giving quality jewellery and great customer service.

Keep an eye on website and facebook as we are introducing a new range of products, including handmade range of pendants, rings and sapphires (cut and set) and one off pieces.

The help that Tim and Ferny have given us, has been truly appreciated. They have some very exciting plans for the future and we wish them all the best.

How to make boho bangles

How to make boho bangles.

I was looking on Pintest today, there are so many great ideas on there!  I love looking for inspiration on Pinterest, I particully love looking at DIY jewellery displays and ways to display jewellery at events.  I have found so many great ideas via Pinterest.  While I was on Pinterest today I found this great tutorial on how to make a boho bangle and I just had to share it with you.

Boho bangles are all the rage at the moment and these ones have beautiful vibrate colours that will add a great look to your winter fashion wardrobe.  I think they will be easy to make and should fill in a few hours with the kids if they enjoy craft, I know my two nieces are just going to love diving into this on the weekend.

This step by step guide shows you exactly what you need and how to make your very own boho bangles.

What you need:

1. Bangles – you can pick these up at your local op shop or $2 thrift store.

2. Charms and Jump Rings – you can find these at shops like spotlight, Lincraft or once again the $2 thrift store will be able to help

3. Waxed Cotton – I have seen this at my local op shop, Spotlight and Lincraft stores

4. Glue – I find araldite works best, you can get this at the supermarket or hardware store.

Method:

Start by placing a small amount of glue onto the top of the bangle to secure the start of the waxed cotton.  Wrap the cotton around and around the bangle until it is totally covered in cotton. Then simply place the charms on the jump rings and place onto the bangle. To make it easier use a pair of pliers to open and close the jump rings, these are not essential but do save you from getting sore and tired fingers.

This is so simple I am sure a 7 or 8 year old could do it.  I will let you know how we go on the weekend when my nieces try this out, I would love to see your pictures too if you give it a try for yourself. Post them on our facebook page here.

New Wooden Gift Box

New Wooden Gift Box with each piece of personalised jewellery.

A little while ago I decided every single piece of our personalised jewellery would be gifted in a beautiful handcrafted wooden box.  So, the search was on and after much research I am happy to report we now have these lovely wooden gift boxes in stock and ready to go… just in time for Mother’s Day.

One thing I remember before I had my own jewellery range was when I received jewellery as a gift from a traditional jewellery store I liked the fact that it came in a fancy velvet box. Now of course I like to do things a little different and yeah sure I could have just went down the traditional jewellery box route but I thought NO WAY,  our jewellery is special and unique so it deserves a special and unique gift box.

When I started thinking about my options I, as I always do when I am designing a new jewellery range, got out the mood board and created inspiration.  I was drawn to the earth element of wood… the texture and smell of timber has always been something that I liked, so it really was the perfect choice for our new range of gift boxes.  I also loved the wooden carvings I was seeing so I wanted to somehow incorporate that into the gift box design.

I didn’t want to get just any type of box, I wanted something with a nice design and shape.  I looked at many different types of wooden boxes, it felt like the choices were endless,  I really love Redwood but Teak and Silky Oak are also favourites of mine. I had to of course also consider the production cost and how they would be warped and posted out to their new owners. So in the end I did settle on the redwood, the colour of the new boxes are perfect.

Wooden Gift Box with personalised orders

Every single piece of personalised jewellery from Sweet Sweet Silver will now come in one of our very own hand crafted wooden gift box!  I am so very excited, I am really pleased how they have turned out and I hope you all enjoy them. I am looking forward to sharing our new wooden gift boxes with mums everywhere just in time for Mothers Day next month. If you are looking for a beautiful gift for your mum, or mum-in-law or maybe even yourself make sure you take a look at our Mother’s Day range.

Mother"s Day

Mother’s Day

In Australia Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. In 2015 that will by Sunday 10th May. It is one of the most popular of all days that children honour their relationships with their mother, thank them for their efforts in giving them life, raising them and being their constant support and well wisher.

The origin of Mother’s Day goes back to the era of ancient Greek and Romans. But the roots of Mother’s Day history can also be traced in UK where a Mothering Sunday was celebrated much before the festival saw the light of the day in US. However, the celebration of the festival as it is seen today is a recent phenomenon and not even a hundred years old.

It was the hard work of two pioneering women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis that the day even came into existence. Today the festival of Mothers day is celebrated across 46 countries and is a hugely popular.

New Button Range

New  Interchangeable Button Range Released

I am so super excited to bring to you our new interchangeable button range!  We have been working hard over the past 3 months sourcing the best for you.  Today we released the range and it is now live on our website!  YAY!  It is great to finally see our hard work is now out there in the big wide world.

This year we wanted to add a special touch to the standard button range you have seen over the past 2 years, so we went back to basic’s and got out our mood board for inspiration.  To my mood boards I always add the things that are most influential in my life right at that moment and back in December that was prayer flags I have recently got my hands on, they symbolise so much and I knew they would play a big part of the new range concept. So that is where we started, the verses are deep!  And made me think of freedom and inner peace.  I added some pictures of wings and the word FREEDOM.  That lead me to the boho and gypsy feel and this rumbled up a whole world of patterns, textures and thoughts.

My mood board took a slight deviation and I ventured into the animal world with elephants and leopard prints but I also had a tricycle and an umbrella on there and I wasn’t too sure where I was headed but I continued on this path as I mostly liked what I was seeing. After about 2 weeks of adding pieces on and taking them off again I finally ended up with about 15 images, here are a few of them.

Once I had the concept down I then set off to source the products.  I knew I wanted something new and fresh so you can imagine my happiness when I found someone who I was able to share the vision with.  Together we came up with the collection and added new rings, a cuff two necklaces and 35 new buttons and I couldn’t be happier.

I have kept all of your favourite buttons and leather bracelets in there as well as they are so popular! But I am super proud of this new collection we have available for you!

As always see you on our facebook page.

Jamie"s Story

Jamie’s Story

What a beautiful story of survival!

I am a mum, when I saw this clip about Jamie’s Story my heart just melted, it is a truly a magical story that everyone should watch, BUT!  be warned, you need to get the tissues out!

Jamie’s Story takes you on a journey of what happened on the day he and his sister, Emily were born at 26 weeks… It is noting less than a miracle.   First time parents Kate and David were overjoyed on the news that they were expecting twins, however, after their premature birth they were told the first born baby would not make it.

In the clip of Jamie’s Story, Jamie and Emily’s mum Kate tells her story of the events that happened that day.  Kate describes that there isn’t a day that goes by that her and the babies father David don’t remember the miracle that occurred.  Makes me want to rush out and hold my kids a little tighter, I’ll never take them for granted, kids are a beautiful gift for us to cherish and nurture each and every day.

Jamie and his twin sister Emily are almost five years old now, I am sure they are happy, healthy and loved.

Celebrity Fashion

Celebrity Fashion.

Do you watch “WHO” your favourite celebrity is wearing? I do!  I like to see who is wearing what!  With Fall Fashion 2015 coming to a close there seems to be lots of designers pulling all punches to fill their front row seats with celebrities. What a buzz it must be to have a celebrity wearing your brand. According to fashionista.com huge stars were spotted at the fall 2015 shows in London, New York and Los Angeles.

Some were unexpected, like Selena Gomez at Louis Vuitton and Lorde at Dior, while others were literally unavoidable, namely the social media powerhouse that is the Kardashian/Jenner/West clan, which tweeted its way through the month. (Although, with millions of followers apiece, there’s no surprise that the clan was invited to see so many collections in the first place.)

Here is the top 3 most influential front rows of the season, I got to say, wow!! Very Impressive star power.

3. BURBERRY – There star power included Sam Smith, Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Kate Moss, Mario Testino and Naomi Campbell.

#2. KANYE WEST FOR ADIDAS ORIGINALS -There star power included Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, North West, Anna Wintour and Virginia Smith.

#1. TOM FORD -But it was Tom Ford who takes out first place with this line up of Star power – Jennifer Lopez, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Romain Dauriac, Scarlet Johansson, Amy Adams and Darren Le Gallo.

The Peace Sign - Pendant Meaning

The Peace Sign – Pendant Meaning.

When I started researching the meaning of the peace sign I wasn’t surprised at what I found. The peace sign symbolizes universal peace and most of the articles I found refer to the fun lovin peace of the 70’s… To be expected ‘The 70’s show’ came up a fair bit in my internet searches,  that was one of the first things that popped into my  head when I thought about writing this… It was a very popular tv show for my generation a few years back.

There were a number of things I discovered when I went looking for the true meaning, a lot I didn’t know, here are the top 3 I thought were worth mentioning.

  • It was created by British artist Gerald Holtom in 1958.

  • It was originally designed as a symbol for the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War.

  • The three lines in the circle represent two letters – N and D, which stands for Nuclear Disarmament.

  • The two lines on the bottom of the peace symbol which are at a 45 degree angle represent two flags held at this angle, which represents the letter “N.” The straight line in the middle that goes up and down represents the letter, “D.”

Peace Symbol Pendant

In the United States in 1960 the popularity of the symbol quickly spread and became a symbol of the peace movement. It was very popular during the Vietnam War and is now used as an internationally known symbol for peace amongst all people.

I hope you fond this as interesting as I did. Peace Out!

The Infinity Symbol - Pendant Meaning

The Infinity Symbol – Pendant Meaning

This symbol, which looks like the number 8 turned on its side, is actually known as the Lemniscate, which means “ribbon.”

It was first introduced during the seventeenth century by John Wallis, an English mathematician who wanted to create a symbol to represent the idea of infinity – a sum that is larger than any number that can ever be created.

The word infinity means something that has no beginning or end, something that is endless. Infinity shaped pendants are indicating that your friendship/love will have no end and will go on forever. It really has a powerful message.

Infinity pendants are a perfect gift to show someone special how much you value their friendship, their love, their companionship or simply for always being there for you.

The more traditional infinity pendants are represented with the 8 symbol sideways but more modern designs are also created with interlocking circles or patterns.  Here at Sweet Sweet Siler we love the symbol and have used it again this year in our 2015 collection.

How to choose the right necklace length for you

How to choose the right necklace length for you.

Finding the right length necklace can be a challenge.  Here at Sweet Sweet Silver we have compiled a list of the most common size chains and wear they sit on your neck.  We have listed the length in inch (“) as well as center meter (cm) so you can easily identify the measurement. Of course we make all our own chains and can usually cut chain to your desired length.

If you can, over time buy necklaces of various lengths so you can chop and change between each one depending on your outfit’s neckline and the occasion. The fashion we are seeing trending at the moment is to wear multiple necklaces all falling at different lengths for a layered look.

The 14″ NECKLACE (35.56cm)

Fits like a choker

The 16″ NECKLACE (40.64cm)

A 16 inch necklace falls around the base of the neck, fitting like a collar for most people. For petite frames, a 16 inch necklace might hang slightly lower down to the collarbones. Most necklaces come in 16 inch length and will complement almost any neckline. For plus size women, this necklace might feel like a choker.

The 18″ NECKLACE (45.72cm)

An 18 inch necklace is popular choice among women and will fall just below the throat at the collarbone. This length is popular for adding pendants, and the piece will hang over a t-shirt.

The 20″ NECKLACE -The most popular size (50.8cm)

A 20 inch necklace will fall a few inches below the collarbone to will allow a little more breathing room. This is a good length if you have a low, plunging neckline or if you would like to wear it over a high neck top.

The 24″ NECKLACE (60.96cm)

Falls below a neckline between the breasts. A good choice if wearing your necklace over the top of your shirt.

The 36″ NECKLACE (91.44cm)

A 36 inch necklace is common and will hang below the breast. They can be worn as a single strand or you can wrap them around twice for an 18 inch necklace. Popular with wooden beads.

Valentine"s Day, is it just a day to get lucky?

Valentine’s Day, it is a day celebrated to show your love to that special someone. Upon reading articles about this special day. This is what I found worth sharing…

• Valentine cards are the second most popular greeting card-giving occasion next to Christmas. This surprised me, I thought birthday or mother’s day cards would have been at the top of this list!?

• One-quarter of men spend money on gifts for their loved one because they feel obligated or are just trying to get lucky.  Meanwhile, 13% of women say they celebrate just “because everyone else does.” This is totally me!  We rarely give gifts and the only reason we would is because we feel we have to. I believe that my husband and I appreciate each other every single day and Valentines Day isn’t any different for us.

• The longer the relationship, and the older you get, the less you spend on unique gifts for loved ones. This rings true for me. I think that “the older the relationship is” just means it is at a new or different level of love and Valentines Day doesn’t really factor on the radar that much… Well not for me anyway.

• Did you know that Australian men are more romantic than their female counterparts? My husband says ‘of course we are’…  Well, I am not too sure about that but  I do love a bit of romance, what women doesn’t?

• An interesting statistic figure states that 58% of men splurge on buying greetings cards as opposed to just 41% of women. Is that because, as women, we just get the kids to make them?  To me, cards are just such a waste of money and trees!   Homemade cards the kids make are so much more personable and we always treasure them.
